The good points
- Free timing: nobody gives you a schedule. This is good for families and photographers.
- Lower cost: you pay for the car, fuel and tolls. You do not pay a driver.
Be careful with
- The Tizi n'Tichka road: it is beautiful but it has many sharp bends and many trucks. Marrakech to Ouarzazate is about 200 km. It takes about 4 hours.
- Long days: Marrakech to Merzouga is about 550 km. It takes 9 to 10 hours. It is better to split this trip into two days.
- Local rules: the speed limit is 60 km/h in town, 100 km/h on roads and 120 km/h on the motorway. There are many police checks. Motorways have tolls.
- Insurance: standard insurance usually does not cover off-road driving. If you damage the car in sand, you may not be covered.
So, driving yourself is a good choice if you feel safe on mountain roads and you stay on paved roads and easy tracks. In this case, the Range Rover Sport rental gives you comfort, power and good control on the Atlas roads.
