Rent a car in Marrakech to go further

You can visit the medina, Jemaa el-Fna square and the gardens on foot or in a horse carriage. But the real reason to have a car in Marrakech is everything around the city: the High Atlas valleys less than one hour away, the Agafay desert near the city, the Ouzoud waterfalls, the coast at Essaouira and the kasbahs on the road to Ouarzazate. With your own car, you leave when you want, you stop for a photo or a tea, and you avoid group tours with fixed times.

Where we deliver in Marrakech

Delivery is free everywhere in the city:

  • Marrakech-Menara airport, about fifteen minutes from the centre. We meet you at the arrivals exit and we follow your flight;
  • Gueliz and Hivernage, the areas with hotels, restaurants and shops;
  • The Palmeraie and the Fes road, for villas and resorts;
  • Near the medina: cars cannot enter the small streets, so we meet you at the gate closest to your riad;
  • Marrakech train station, the last stop for trains from Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier;
  • Hotels on the Ourika road and the Amizmiz road.

Driving in Marrakech and the region

  • Scooters and motorbikes: there are many in the city, and they often appear on your sides. Check your mirrors before you turn.
  • Carriages, carts and people on foot near the medina: drive slowly and keep space around you.
  • Speed: 60 km/h in town, 100 km/h on roads, 120 km/h on the A7 motorway to Casablanca and Agadir. There are often mobile speed cameras when you leave the city.
  • Mountain roads: the Tizi n'Tichka pass is more than 2,200 metres high. It has sharp bends, slow trucks and sometimes snow in winter. Take your time, and avoid driving at night if you do not know the road.
  • Parking: there are guarded car parks near the medina and in Gueliz. At night, always leave the car in a guarded car park.
  • Fuel: fill the tank before you go to the Atlas or the south. There are few petrol stations in the mountains.

Trips you must do

  • Agafay desert: about 40 km, 45 minutes, for a sunset over the stone desert;
  • Lalla Takerkoust lake: about forty kilometres, great for lunch with a view of the Atlas;
  • Ourika valley: about 45 km, one hour to Setti Fatma;
  • Imlil and Toubkal: about 65 km, 1 h 30, the start of many hikes;
  • Ouzoud waterfalls: about 150 km, nearly 3 hours;
  • Essaouira: about 190 km, 2 h 45 to 3 hours;
  • Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate: about 190 to 200 km over the Tizi n'Tichka, about 4 hours. It is better to stay at least one night there.

Which vehicle for your stay?

In the city and for short trips, an economy car or a compact car is perfect. For the Atlas roads, the Agafay tracks or a tour to the south, an SUV or 4x4 rental gives you more ground clearance and comfort. Big families and groups of friends can choose a minivan or a minibus. For a wedding, a birthday or a special stay, our luxury cars are available. A car with a driver is also possible if you prefer to enjoy the views. Prices start from 30 € per day.

Rental conditions

The driver must be at least 21 years old and have had a licence for at least 2 years. Drivers under 25 may pay an extra charge. We take the deposit on a bank card, and you return the car with the same fuel level as at the start. Delivery in Marrakech, including the airport, is free.

Frequently asked questions

Can you deliver the car to my riad in the medina?

Cars cannot enter most medina streets, so we give you the car at the gate or the car park closest to your riad.

Do I need a 4x4 to go to the Atlas?

No. The main roads to Ourika, Imlil and Ouarzazate have asphalt. A 4x4 or an SUV is useful for dirt tracks and gives more comfort in the mountains. See our guide to 4x4 rental in Marrakech with or without a driver.

Can I cross the Tizi n'Tichka in winter?

Yes, most of the time. But the pass can close for a short time when there is snow. Check the road conditions before you leave.
